I performed a search and found no info..... does anyone have a writeup on this procedure? I will be transporting my 2yo this fall and need to be as safe as possible. The back of my Runner is full with biz stuff.

Thanks for any !

Doesn't your runner have the Airbag shutoff that you put your key into and turn it to off. I know my Tacoma does.

actually the "disable" feature on the passenger airbag is for vehicles without a "true" back seat so that when you have an infant seat in the the front you can disable the airbag. my 99 Taco had one but my 99 Runner does not. I wonder if the 4 door Taco has one? anyone, just curious

Taco's ahve tem cause they are trucks and passengers mostly ride up front. SUV's don't have them because they have back seats like cars for young ones to ride in. In a truck, you may not have a back seat, and therefore don't have that option. All taco's have the same dash, so instead of making one for eht quad-cab without the switch and one with the switch for the others, they all have the switch.

just my $0.02

Just talked with a EXPERT at the stealer..he mentioned the same thing - since it's a 4 seater there is no shut off switch. I asked if the occupant sensor controls the air bag, he didn't know - if it does maybe i can make it less sensitive and solve it easily (ya right!) he did say that any attempt to install a switch would disable the whole system and throw a code

I am pretty sure that if you have a back seat, it is illegal to put a car seat in the front. That is why there is no turnoff switch. Kids in a car seat are required to ride in the back seat, if there is one.

Just ordered a switch from
http://www.airbagonoff.com/

$160
self install - no DOT request

$365 installed at your home or office - need DOT release
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/airbags/brochure/Req_Form.html

Doesn't sound like a difficult install...all hardware and instructions included.
I'll post update when it is.
