diff fluids

Hey guys I have a quick question. I have a 2002 Tacoma 4x4 and I'm wondering if I have to use a friction modifier when I go to change the rear diff oil (and the front) since I have a TRD E-locker. Thanks for any advice!

Pretty sure it just uses normal fluid but check the manual. Also use synthetic fluid in the diffs for sure, it is worth the extra money since it is only changed once in a blue moon.

Friction modifiers are only needed for clutch-type limited slip diffs (and then only when trying to use the wrong oil with one!). Your push-button locker is nothing like that. Check your manual but I think it will call for plain ol' 80w90 in the back, 75w90 front.

Thanks fellas! I've looked it up in the past, but the reference seemed a little generalized so I wanted a second opinion.

Just changed my front and rear diff (+ E-locker) and t-case with Royal Purple gear oil, nothing too special just the best stuff ever. I used 75w-90 all around even though one asks for 80w-90. At 50% off a bottle from my buddy at NAPA I couldn't complain when I picked up 6qts for $60 instead of like $130.
