Did they even make?

Does anyone know if yota made the 2nd gen 4runners with 22re, all i ever find are V6 versions? if so what years? I need to get a 4door version then my wife would be willing to drive one( you know the ladies like easy access for all their friends) but i want the 22re engine!

Yep, they shre did. I have one. It's prity gutless but I get over 20 mpg so what the heck. Mine is a 91 and I know they also did it in 90 but I think they may have stoped in 92 but I am not sure. I love that motor thogh. It lasts forever.

my thoughts exactly. i love the engine and am not concerned about the power because i drive an 87 and am very happy with the 30 sec. quarter mile(lol). Just cant seem to find one with that option and standard at that!

Actually 22re were used all the way to '95 in the 4runners. In '96 they went to the 2.7L which was available until '98 or '99.

I new they kept them untill 95 for trucks (4x4, 2whd) but never being able to locate a 4ruuner with that option, i thought they might have dropped it and made the V6 standard? special order for the 4 cyl?

Not here in Canada. I've seen quite a few, and my buddy has a '92 with the 22re. I am pretty sure I've seen '95's on the dealer lots here too.
I still like how the 22re sounds, they are easy to pick out when they drive by.

Searching autotrader.com pulls up a few 90 - 95 with the 22re, my quick scan through them didn't find any in TX with 4wd, but some don't list their location. Good luck in your search, I love mine.
