To be honest..I've never even seen a 4th gen with its running boards off...I drove a 2004 and was about ready to put the money down on it..but I really did not want to bring it on the trails ( and I could only afford a 2wd..) So I am happy with my 3rd gen ( I love my truck)..but whenever I see a 4rth on th road..I just smile..I did those new V8s.
I like that rack. Did you get it online or at a shop in Dallas? I need one of those too...

 

okay guys - start posting what we'd need for this WAT. just so we have an idea of what kind of stuff we have, and what more we would need.

i know we need a spring compressor for the lifts, right??
we'd need a way to get all four wheels off the ground, too, right??
i have a 3 ton craftsman floor jack and some 3.5ton jack stands (2 of them) ...

 

Herk - I looked around at the racks for a long time, I almost went to the REI here to buy it, but it saved me a lot of $ to buy it from rackattack.com. Mine is the Yak MegaWarrior with the extension, and I've been very happy with it. If you need to go see one in person, REI carries Thule and Yakima. Or, if we have this WAT and you can come, you can certainly check mine out.

Keisur - Well if you lived closer, you could bring her out to this WAT and maybe we'd all inspire her and then she'd always be wanting to do mods to yours!!

 

gosh ... i'm looking at sears.com about the spring compressors ... those things are relatively cheap -- if we don't have some to use, they'd be easy enough to order and not cost too much!

I think that should be everything. Has anyone posted a list of exactly what tools are needed? Yes I searched. Do I need a strap wrench for the rear shocks? I'll be sure to hit the neccessary components with PB Blaster before hand.

When and where does everyone want to do this? Saturdays are usually best for me. Hopefully I'll be ordering my tires early next week, so the 27th or 3rd would be good. I'm cool with meeting anywhere around the metroplex. I don't have a place to do it up here in Denton.

Saturdays are best for me too, since I'm in college (you are too, right, snoozer?) ... I don't have a shop or anything, I just know of a lot of big open parking lots over here. Where in Denton are you? I don't have much experience over in that part of town ... so where is everyone?

I probably wouldn't be quite ready to do my lift by the end of this month, but if you guys could use my help, I still would love to help out and bring whatever tools I can and some beers and whatever else.

Lemme look around the net a little and see what other parts we might need. So besides me and snoozer, who else is interested in coming??

 

I would love to come..but that is about when my baby is due. I am way out in Abilene so I will have to have more then a days notice. I would love to come out and help..or just plain shoot the shiit and check out everyones ride.

Hey guys ... there are tons of Autozones around the area, and they will lend out the spring compressor and ball joint separator and a bunch of other tools. For free. So, whatever day we do this, we could make a list of tools we need and I could pick 'em up from autozone to bring wherever we meet. That way, we don't have to buy them, or wait for them to get here. Cool. If any of you other guys are anxious to wrench some on their trucks before the 27th, I'd sure be up for that too. I just like to learn and get my hands dirty and help, so, know that I'm availabe and happy to help any time. I'm looking forward to this!! I wanna help snoozer with his lift, and anyone else!

 

snoozer - when you say cornholes ... do you mean cornfeds? i'm trying to look up your parts so i can find out what kind of tools you need for your lift, and the only "cornhole" listings i find through yahoo are porn sites, and last time i heard, they didn't make very quality lift kits

Hey man ... I'm pretty much decided on mine ... I'm going to try the 3" RevTek lift. After a lot of help from the guys around this forum, I am fairly confident that I can do this myself, or with a little help from you DFW guys. I haven't ordered it yet, but, soon. What are you thinking of for your lift?

it helps, but if you are replacing them and throwing them away, you can just crush the upper shroud thing and that way you can put a clamp of a big set of channel lock pliers on it to keep it from turning when you turn the nut at the top. the 4th gens should have a problem because they haven't been around long enough to take a set like you '98.

yes, PB blaster the crap out of any threaded connection you see that you may have to break loose, it makes things alot easier. I would hit them a couple days prior to the job and then again the night before the job.

 

you shouldn't need one but if you think you will, Autozone has two sizes for about $9 and $12. on fits the tie rod and one fits the ball joints. but you shouldn't need to separate the tie rod or the ball joint.

 

Awe heck, it's only a 4 hour drive. I think I would be willing to make it to lend a hand. just need direction on the final decision of where. Also, I have probably all the tools you guys are going to need, just make a list and post it here and I'll be sure to pack it in the 4Runner and come join you people. That is, if anybody is welcome whether they are doing a lift or not.
