Anyone know how this tire does in snow? Its between this or BFG AT's. I do lots of snow driving, Comparing to the stock tires Wrangler RTS.

I know it does well in deep snow, but how do they do in old snow that is stuck to the road, days after, and on plowed, but not salted roads.

Although, I'm thinking If i can find a really good deal on the MT's, I can get those, and 4 Firestone Winterforce's for the price of the BFG

Snow = AT's. The siping is good for ice too.

 

i wasnt a fan of the at's when they get half bald. I like the cooper st's and funcountry II's. and weight in the back, and plenty of stopping distance. our roads get Jacked up here, wind/snow/ice.

 

M/T's = little if any siping = less traction on packed snow and ice.

I don't have personal experiences with the Firestone Destination M/T's, but I've had similar tires and know M/T's don't do very well on packed snow or ice. In addition to the lack of siping, the large tread voids put less rubber on the road. That's good on rocky, muddy trails, but not so much on what you're looking to run them on. I'm looking very seriously at the new Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac's as my next set of shoes. They have the tread of a very aggressive A/T with the sidewall of an M/T.

 

man! i like those duratrac's I bet they are expensive though.

 

ST's not the STT's. ST's and FuncoII's are just about the same tire.

 

The Duratrac's retail for $239 in the 285/75 size, but my local Goodyear store quoted me $200 each, mounted and balanced. That price puts it right in the price range of most M/T's and name brand, good quality A/T's. With all of the snow, packed snow, ice and rain we get around here, running an M/T on a DD just isn't practical. These GY's should excel in most of those areas. Not to mention the killer tread and sidewall looks.

Another tire to consider is the Kelly Safari TSR, also available at most GY stores.

 

I've had Firestone M/T's for over 2 years now. I'm in Michigan, we get quite a bit of snow. The tires do really well in deep snow, either light and powdery or heavy and wet. They do pretty well in hard packed snow on the streets also. On ice, they could be better with some siping. I never really had any problems with them though. Overall, I am very happy with them.
