Decoding transmission dates on 99 4runner

Decoding transmission dates on 99 4runner
Hello, I was wondering how to decode when my automatic transmission was made on my 4Runner. I need a new transmission and apparently need to know when it was made. There seems to be a break point of before 5/99 and after 6/99. Do I need to decode my vehical VIN or my transmission model number?
My Vin is JT3HN86R5X0230852.
Does anyone know why there is a break point like this? Were the trannys changed at that point.... what changes where made??
