Decided to go with OEM Coils from Toyota...
#1
The OEM Coils from Toyota are $83 each. Times two that is $166. Labor will be $112. I'll still get the Bilstein Shocks. Toyota dealer will install it all. It's just so much more convenient to have the dealer do the work. Any of you fellas have any thoughts about getting genuine Toyota replacement coils? They come with a 12 month warranty.

Scott, they are going to sag on you, and not really lift your rig at all.
You would be better off IMO to get the Downey HD coils.
Downey's are only $169 for the set, and two guy's could easily put them on, or a local shop.
Toyota might even put them on for you too.

Jeez Corey...
I get more confused by the minute. :pat: However, I REALLY appreciate your input. I see all the cool mods you have done to your rig and it looks great. I guess my problem is -- I'm not looking to make my 4Runner into a rock crawler. Just better suspension (shocks), and I want it to sit exactly like it did when it was new.
This rig is my daily driver, and I will be doing some easy to medium off roadiing for camping purposes and getting around in these Colorado winters that will be here soon. Please be patient with me while I try to do the right thing. I would hate to go with the Downey's, and after they are installed seeing that it has lifted it WAY too much.

Scott-
I live in Lakewood. If you want, I can bring my rig by. I've got OME front and rear, ProComps in front, Ranch RS3000 in rear. It rides better now than it did stock.
Also, if you want to save yourself a few bucks, I can help you install them. I have the tools. Rears are super easy. Fronts are a little more time consuming, but I did mine all by myself.
Let me know!

One more thing-
If you have a 2nd gen, stock coils will make you look like you're dragging a$$. I had a 92, and the back always looked lower than the front. You could go stocks in front, and Downeys in rear and save a few bucks. Just my 2 cents.
Also, I just noticed something. My keyboard has no "cent" sign. What's up with that?

Haveblue, he's got a 2nd gen like mine, so only the rears need to be changed.
I agree, the new Toy stock coils will end up sagging again very shortly.
They sag to begin with right off the parking lot when new.
Not only do the Downey's level the rig out the way it should sit, they also tighten up the ride and it feels better in high winds on the freeway too.
The stock ones are just to weak IMO.
Here is an excellent install article on doing the rear coils.

A 12 month warantee is not worth anything IMHO. In 12 months I don't expect them to have sagged enough to have the dealer replace them for free. Whatever problems you are having with the current OEM springs won't be corrected with new OEM springs. Over time they get shorter so your rear end rides lower and lower as time passes.
The Bilstein shocks will improve the ride but will do nothing towards regaining and thereafter preserving your stock ride height. Installation can be done by one guy with some backyard wrenching experience, you need a spring compressor which can be borrowed from Auto Zone for a fully refundable deposit. I think I could do it in 2-3 hours by myself. I'll help if you want to save a ton on the install from the dealer.

I have a 94 Runner. It is my daily driver. I do not go off road. I do have the Downey HD coils and it is the best, and only, mod that I did. It gets rid of the sag in a very moderate and good looking way. It also comes in handy when I have a heavy load in the back. My vote is stongly for the Downeys.

My personal opinion, if you are going to replace the coils, there are a lot of company's that do the research and make their springs better than stock. I replaced my stock springs with performance products springs. I couldn't stand the soft/springy ride that the stock 3rd gen have they cant handle on road worth S***. But anyways I love my PP springs!!
