Dealer lying to me? RE: lighting
I went to the parts dept of my local Toyota dealer today. While making small talk with the parts guy, I asked him about the PIAA replacement bulbs for my headlights. (Based on reviews here, I had no intention of buying them). I asked why they dont carry any of the European bulbs (Phillips, OSRAM). He told me that they have been reported to burn too hot in the housing and melt the wiring. He says a lot of people replace the harness new or pick up a used harness at a salvage yard.
Is this true? Will the European bulbs burn too hot? Has this happened to anyone here?

Although I don't personally know anyone this has happened to, it's entirely possible and also the reason I stay within spec wattage for my bulb replacements. I believe factory spec is something like 55W/80W, but replacements commonly go as high as 120 - 130 W.
If your wiring and such cannot handle them & you put them it, it will certainly melt the wiring, wiring harness, etc.
