Dash Pot pieces missing

Just got a Haynes manual so of course I was out "tinkering" last night. I was reading up on the dash pot (dp) and the diagram shows a separater and a filter under the cap, BUT...mine are missing! What problems/symptoms will this cause? As I live in AZ, I'm worried about all the dust. The cap is cracked, too.
Thanks.

Some dashpots have the filter built in, some have it dangling on a short piece of vacuum tube. I wouldn't worry about it, if you find it sticking and causing a high-idle condition just adjust it out so it doesn't hit the throttle linkage or remove it. It's not critical, just stops the throttle from slamming shut, supposedly helps emissions.

Never trust a haynes manual, get a factory service manual first chance you get. Haynes is famous for inaccuracies and typos.

Speaking of the Dash Pot. Anyone know the thread size and pitch for the set screw for the dp? Mine fell out and when I had the TB out for cleaning, I took it over to a place and they gave me a bolt that worked perfectly for the set screw. Problem was it must have been the wrong thread pitch or it was just too loose. Anyways, after a couple hundred miles I noticed the screw had rattled off so now I need to get another one and lock-tite it on.

My on/off throttle response seems to be affected by the lack of the DP.

The factory throttle set screw also comes with a nut which you use to lock your adjustment by tightening it against the bracket that you thread the set screw through and also retains the screw in the bracket. As far as adjustment of the screw, after lubing the plunger on the dash pot, work it in and out several times to make sure it is operating freely and also note the amount of travel of the plunger. As strickly a rule of thumb, adjust the throttle stop screw so that when it contacts the DP plunger, it pushes it about half of that travel you noted and tighten the lock nut.
