Darn Drunk Drivers

Mike, glad your wife is OK.
The Washington judge we're talking about is a justice on the freaking Washington Supreme Court. She was busted for both DUI and hit-and-run. She's still on the bench and refuses to resign. Outrageous.

Well, I guess it's time I chime in. First and foremost, glad everyone is okay. What I'd like to add is simple. The part of my job that sucks is the rash of ˟˟˟˟˟ I take from the drunks when I lock 'em up. Not only did I just save their life, but also the lives of all the other drivers on the road. We have a zero tolerance for DWI's around here. You wanna go 4-50, we'll catch your ass, and believe me, it's not worth it. Get a "DD" (Designated Driver) cause belive me... you CAN'T afford the DWI.
But bottom line, like I said, our reward for taking the drunk off the street is usually getting cursed and spit at by the drunk himself (or herself). But as with anything else, we carry on...

Richter, I am glad the men & women in blue are out there watching for this type of activity.
When I see a state patrol car on the side of the road, I applaud them for doing their duty.
It's sad though that many do get away with it and never get caught.
To bad all vehicles don't have a mandatory breath analyzer in them that will prevent the vehicle from starting.
I saw on TV one time I think some DWI offenders had to have a device like that installed in their vehicle.
Perhaps it was in the testing phase?

So yeah, they do use the in car breathalizer. It makes you blow into it when you start the car and when you are driving. It records all the info. If you blow over the limit, you are screwed when your probation officer finds out.

Breathalizers will read alcohol on your breath if you use Binaca or have just recently taken a dose of Nyquil. In fact, when officers here are training - they use the Binaca to show how to read the measurements.
Until they get a machine that can differentiate I think an automatic breathalizer is going to stay questionable. Can you hear it now? "But Mr. Parole Officer, I was just with a girl and used that breath spray stuff..."
