I did it.. I turned over 3k on this, the latest installment of "Who want's to do a valve job"
Yep.. In the heavy freaking monsoon rain we had today, my latest head work turned over 3k.. This is a major mile point.. this is the first time the heads have gone over 3k and the truck still idles just fine! Keep in mind, I have been dealing with this since Feb of 2002! So wish me luck!
Damn truck has really been pushing it these last 20k..
BTW.. it is up to 147,000 now..

The idle was way bad.. Like a major shake in the motor and very low power.. (some hills I took off in low range 2wd ~ Hubs unlocked , just to get moving)
In hind site, I think the first set of heads could of been fixed just by having the valves re-shimmed.. But I never had them looked at, I just had my spare set re-done.. (In fact, they may be just fine!) My gas mileage was between 6-8 mpg.. It was just barely driveable..
As for the fuel pump?? I dunno, it has not acted up and I did tow the camper to NH and wheeled it.. Plus I have been driving it daily for work for over a month untill I can drop a new motor into my Jeep. I will wait untill I get my motor in the Jeep, then I have to put a new heater core in my wifes Chevy conversion van.. Major PITA here.. Pull steering collum, remove DASH!! Sounds like at least a weekend here.. Glas I will soon have my very own 2 car garage!
So, who knows.. I go in baby steps as far as mileage goes now.. To date, I nor anyone else can explain how the gap gets too tight .. It can not happen in my opinion..?? The cam shaft bearings hold the cam adjustment to the shim, there are no lifters.. everything is solid. I can see it getting too loose, but tighter?? the only way is that something got bigger??!! (Or the head got smaller) Go figure?
