CV's and diff.

I have gear oil leaking from where my differential meets the housing that the CV's sit in. Its on the drivers side and i figured that it was just the axle seal. Well today I took the CV out of the housing and couldn't figure out how to get any further. I believe that there is supposed to be a snap ring holding the housing to the diff., but I cant see one. Am I going to have to drop my differential to fix the problem? Any suggestions???

It should just be an axle seal where your cv slides in on the driver side if your's is a driver drop case. It's been so long since I was inside an IFS diff I can't recall exactly but the only snap ring I recall is the one on the cv holding it in the diff.
