Question Cruise Control "Problem"

I was out driving today and turned my cruise on. I then proceeded to set it at about 45-50mph. All i got was a blinking cruise light and the speed did not set. This happened twice and then once I turned the cruise on and off again the problem was fixed. Does the blinking light mean anything. Of course the manual says nothing about it.

The only time I have ever got the blinking light is when I was going up a long hill and my speed fell below some certain MPH...the computer must have some sort of built in feature that if the speed falls, say, 6 MPH below where the cruise was initially set, that it turns it off. Not sure why yours was blinking though.

The '03 Manual specifically talks about this. Even though you don't have an '03, I'm sure it still applies.

If the "CRUISE" indicator light in the instrument cluster flashes when using the cruise control, press the "ON-OFF" button to turn the system off and then press it again to turn it on.
If any of the following conditions then occurs, there is some trouble in the cruise control system.

The indicator light does not come on.
The indicator light flashes again.
The indicator light goes out after it comes on.

If this is the case, contact your Toyota dealer and have your vehicle inspected.

Well that sheds some light on the subject but I wonder why it blinks. Wish Toyota would have explained the reasoning. Oh well.
