Cruise control problem??

Hey,

95 SR5 6cyl 139K...While driving on highway or town, when cruise is set it transmission seldom stays in OD. As soon as I begin to go up even the slightest incline trans shifts out of OD and will only go back in if I go downhill. Is this normal?? Being in central Arkansas you can't swing a dead cat without going up hills. If I drive without the cruise I can usually feather accellerator without shifting out of OD. Can the OD be adjusted as to the vacuum or RPM before it kicks out?

Thanks for any information provided.

DJ

when i first got my runner i was pissed about the very same thing...if you search the forum youll find that every time this subject comes up half of the responses are "the 2nd gen cruise sucks and i never use it"...the other half is "i use my cruise all the time...going up hills 80 mph...no problem"...never have i really gotten an answer to if there is much to do to improve the situation of a 3.0 downshifting a lot...there was one suggestion i remember to take the slack out of the "cruise control throttle cable"...i tightened it as much as i could and while it might have helped a tiny bit...i still never use the cruise cuz of the exact thing you mentioned....maybe somebody else has something that will actually help

Question Ditto

My Question was exactly the same. '91 3.0 I just did a search on Cruise Control. Looks like we are outta luck. Mark

I adjusted my cruise control cable and the transmission cable and it seemed to work a lot better. If mine keeps acting up I'm going to put on an aftermarket cruise.

what's up DJ?

I used to have a '91 and the cruise was awful. It always kicked up to 4K RPM when i'd hit the slightest hills. I'm from Fort Smith and went to Arkansas Tech, so i got to drive I-40 a few times and definitely know what you're talking about.

Also, i just bought a house in Van Buren(near the supercenter)...what a small world!
