cost for someone to replace wheel bearing

I have a 97 4rr 4wd antilock brakes, my driver side rear wheel bearing seal is leaking, & all my tools are in another state, so I'm just wondering what would be a fair price for a mechanic to charge me to do the job if I pick-up the parts, I know the bearing will have to be pressed on by a machine shop ???

Bearing will have to be pressed in and out.. It will probably be a 3-4 hour job. I'd say around $500 (maybe) including all the parts. Be sure to get both inner and outer oil seals and snap ring.

You're in luck, I just posted this not long ago.

Would save you a good chunk of money if you found a way to remove the spindle yourself.

JWaldz, I should've been more specific in my question, I was talking more of a backyard mechanic doing the job,if I got the parts & paid for the machine shop, maybe some one will chime in on what they'ld charge.

This is exactly what I did with my 2000 Tundra (and '95 4Runner, but different story). I disconnected both ball-joints and took an OEM bearing and seals ( $160 total, IIRC) to a local drive-line specialist shop. I was charged for 30 minutes of labor ($56 for 1/2 hour). I only did the passenger side.

REAR wheel bearings, ohhhhh!! Well, rear will cost you a little less than the front. It is a completely different procedure. If a shop can get everything off correctly without cutting the abs toner ring off it will be even more cheaper. Good luck.
