Cool penetrating oil tip

How many of you have used a spray penetrating oil to loosen up bolts the night before you did a mod on the rig?

I bought the new Four Wheeler mag yesterday to see the article on Badland Bumpers they guy who built my sliderz, and has built many items for members of this board.

I was looking in the "Cheap Tricks" section when I spotted a home brewed concoction to make your own lube to use for helping to loose stuck bolts.

I'll let ya take a gander at it here, and decide for yourself to make it or not.

Anyone hear of this used before?
The writer swears by the stuff, and says it works better than over the counter penetrating oil.

Dang... and I just bought a bottle of PB blaster. :pat:

I'll try that too, though.

I have serious reservations about his choice of container but the concoction may work well.

An old trick I used to use in the Navy (lots of rusted bolts on a ship) is to put Tabasco sauce on the rusty bolts. The vinegar and pepper eats the rust real well.

Mack,

I learned that trick from you and to all others: it works REALLY well.

Mack...

Actually it's the vinegar (acetic acid) and salt (sodium chloride) that work in Tabasco. You must have a solution with both reactants for best performance.

The pepper (capsaicin) has no effect on the rust. Otherwise, we'd be shipping green chiles to NY by the ton.
