Contemplating these nerf bars...

Should I get chrome nerf bars or keep the stock running boards? I photo-shopped some chrome ones on and something just doesn’t feel right

Chrome will rust, and stainless steel one are $$$.
I ran a set of Smittybilts for a few years that were powder coat black, and they held up very well, and zero rust.

When the boards come off, you will get crap on the sides, so front mud flaps would be a good idea.

Although more $$$, have you thought about rock sliderz also?
You can still stand on them for when washing the rig ( I do all the time) and for reaching stuff on the rig.

powder coat

I like black to go with the color of your 4Runner, but if you get them chrome you can solve the rust problem easily. Get them powder-coated with a clear coat or have them powder-coated chrome again. Doesn't look perfect in the photoshop picture because they're not long enough. Shrink the original pic of your 4Runner down some and them slap the nerf bars on there.

I've borrowed this guy's bar...

Extends about as far as his, right? I just was cleaning the underbody and removed the running board and liked the less 'heavy' look, thought might as well replace them since they off. Only purpose for them if for passengers to be able to get it. But maybe I'll keep no bars or boards at all.

How much does Toyota charge for front flaps for 3rd gen? And do they mold around the edge and fill in where the front fender flare trim is not long enough?
