That's good to hear that Toyota moved the computer up higher. A few weeks ago I accidently put my truck in the water on the passenger side. It ran for about 20 seconds, just long enough for the computer to fill up. Once the truck got pulled out and we dryed out the computer it started back up. I have been looking into moving the computer up higher or maybe just staying out of the lake.

I think you mean 4.88s. Anything lower than 5.29s and you're risking R and P failure.

So does anyone know what ratio brings it back to stock gear ratios?

I believe that would be 4.56 or maybe 4.30.

Thanks Keisur! When I get the ARB front locker, I'll get the 4.88's like you have. Are you enjoying being fully locked now? All I know is that I've always wanted a vehicle with a locker, and now that I have a rear locker, I can say it's the most useful thing on the trail, especially in extreme off cambers where one wheel is stuffed and the other is hanging. It's awesome, and I can wait to get one for the front too.

yes, it's great. especially since both are selectable, either locked or open. it makes it easier to turn when wheeling and lockers aren't needed. plus I can air down and air up without having to go to the gas station.

I really have only had a couple days to play with them since I had to break the gears in but now that I see how great they are I can't believe how I ever got along without them before. before I got stuck alot and a buddy would have to pulled me out. I went to the same places I would normally get stuck and engaged the lockers and crawled right through those mounds, no problems at all. plus, I put it in 4lo and engage the lockers and I "idle" through some obstacles, literally never touching the gas pedal. now that's cool, to me anyway.

Yeah, that's awesome! So other than R&P gears, is there any other way us Autos can get a lower gear ratio like Steve's?

I have no Idea but I could add a marlin crawler too since mines a manual tranny like steve's. Don't know if you can add one to the auto trannies though.

If you have an auto, and you were stock with 16" rims, then you likely have 4.30's.

The most logical choice would be 4.88's because the change to 4.56's is negligible.

To the best of my knowledge, a driver's side output crawler adaptor does not exist. You could switch to passenger side if you went to a solid axle, but that is not part of the equation.

Ok, so it looks like axle gears are about my only reasonable options. I'll definitely be going with 4.88's once I get the money. I know a bunch of places a front locker would have helped me through easier. I just don't like having to give it hell to get through places when I could crawl or at least go a lot slower. Slower and less wheelspin is the best way to prevent breakage in my experience.

Chris,

Getting a decent set of mud terrains would help quite a bit with the wheel spin issue....

From what I can gather, they do. it just has to be shifted into it. they have about 6 positions I think depending on 2wd, 4wd, locked and unlocked. I believe they said he was trying to get through on skill and didn't want to lock up. I'm not real clear on it so before I get my butt chewed I'll shutup.

haha, plus when you get mad at a neighbor you can "cultivate" their front yard for them.

That's the thing that's relaly impressing me about these tires. I don't have to spin up stuff much at all. They are great tires, and once these are worn out I will try the best made mud tire at that time, and then have a good comparison, but until I see a similarly equipped runner pass me on the trail due to their tires, I'm convinced these tires are great!

Well, you're just helping them aerate their lawn to help the grass grow better, right?
