Unhappy climate control backlight not working

i not so recently swapped out my stock head unit on my '91 4runner, and in the process the climate control backlight has stopped working, i did the install with a friend, and i really don't know what he did on his side (passenger), and he offers little help with 'i dont know' as his main response .

i spent a couple hours with my dash apart and a flashlight trying to find some sort of loose connection or damaged wire, found nothing that seems to be attached to the climate control, although i did find 1 wire with a blue connector (sorry i dont have a pic), was right near the floor behind the 'wrap around' console piece, right by the shifters. as hard as i tried i couldnt find a spot that it plugged into.

did the climate control receive power from the head unit? i am really baffled and somewhat missing the extra glow that the climate control put out, spent quite a bit of time looking online, but nothing with quite what i needed to know.

thanks

Looks like we're on the same page. Mine had been going in and out -- I'd get in and turn on the lights and it wouldn't be working, then I'd move the vent/floor/def selector and it would come on. But since I had an audio shop install my head unit it doesn't work at all. I haven't had a chance to tear into it yet, so I'm not helping any. Does the little light in your A/C button still come on? Mine does, guess it's on a different source, or maybe the bulb for the climate control burned out.

yea, my a/c light still works.. and i've thought that it could of burnt out, but way too much of a coincidence... considering i put my dash back together, and drove home from my friends with the light out. also, like i said, there is one disconnected wire in there, but i have no clue what its from.

Well I searched and found this Thread, My climate control light is doing the same thing4mydogs did or still does. I turn on my lights every thing works, except climate control area. I move the vent selection to say defrost from dash and the light comes on. If I move it back to the orginal poisiton it will either stay on or go back out I'm lost and would like to know what I'm doing before I rip apart my dash

Check out this pic of the part. I just replaced my heater control because I broke the curcuit board which held one of the lights. I found out the hard way that you can;t twist and pull out the bulb. I have to take everythign part and get it from the back.

The heater control has electrical ribon material which slides into the amplier. When I took apart the entire unit, I accedentily pull this ribon piece out. That may not be your problem but I would take everything part and test the resistance and make sure the ribon from the heater control is pluged into the amplifer. Its pretty easy to take everything apart. The heater contorl unit is held inplace my 3 screws.

Good luck.

Yeah, this is an old thread, when they reorganized it got put in the 3rd gen section instead of 2nd gen.
