Check it out.. Hi-lift mounted!!

Well, I I can't drive it might as well get the jack on the roof.. The 4Rac brackets seem almost to be begging for this spot! I was going to put it on the side of the rack and make some sort of backing plate tied into the Thule bars to support it better.. But I did not count on how high the 4Rac really is.. So I decided to mount it inside the basket right on the bars themself.. ( Yea, and it was way eaiser too) I love how nice it fits.. I don't think I could of made on to fit this close and tight..

Here is the web page

Oh yea, it is almost flush and hidden from the ground!! only the "up/down" lever sticks ovet the roof.. Yet, I am now nervous about parking garages.. it just raised my truck to about 6' 7" +/-

Nice work lee. Hope my measurements were accurate enough for you. I noticed in the pics you used ubolts to wrap around the thule bars. What are the little silver metal plate things? What are they used for?

That's pretty slick!

Pretty soon you will want sliders to stand on while you are working with stuff on the roof.

Where is the base?

Firefyter-Emt, It looks almost identical to what I did w/ mine. I drilled through the cross bars that came w/ my Surco & ran I think 1/2" bolts up from the bottom. That way I was able to adjust the height & leave the jack in one piece & still have it fit inside of the rack & not stick out above it. The other thing I did was to drill holes in the bolts above the wing nuts so I could pad lock it.

And like lunatic14r I have also had rust issues w/ mine & do keep it regularly sprayed w/ WD-40 so it will work. They make a cover for them but I have not bought one yet.

Wish I had a Digital camera so I could show pix like everyone else does

I forgot. Mine is also 6' 7" tall & I have not found to many parking garages that I can not fit in. Actually I think only once.

The base stays in the cargo box.. It rattles when it is left on the roof... I have removed the cotter pin and changed it to quick release ball bearing pin..

BTW, I made it better today.. I fliped the jack around.. Now the levers that were sticking over the top of the rack now point down.. (bottom end of the jack now faces foward) I did not lose any room, just fliped it around.. Now the only think that is above the rack is 1/2" of the bolt for the bracket it self.

Sliders?? ...Oh, you mean like these???

Those plates come with the u-bolts.. they are suppose to be under the nuts, but they seem to torque up nice when left under there, and give more hold on the bar... I kinda wanted square ones, but I could not find any that fit...

As for the measurements, I was going to make a backing plate that tied into the Thule bar to support where I mounted it to the side of the rack.. But the rack is a little too flimsey and it amazingly fit so perfect here.. so there is it!

Nice setup

That's a great setup. Out of the way but easily accessible. I'd put mine in the same location but need all the space in the rack to haul all my crap. As part of my spring ritual, my hi-lift went on the rack today:

I haven't had any problems with corrosion of the jack, but I also keep it coated in wd-40. I keep the base and handle from rattling with a zip-tie.

Lee your in a mod frenzy! Looks absolutly great though. I was thinking you could take some flat black paint to those u bolts and nuts so they are un-noticed. :fireman:

Ohhhh... maybe if I bring my Hi-Lift parts with me when I glass bead those 5 liter Jerri cans I can blast them as well...

Sad thing is I went out and jacked the truck up just to reply to the post about needing sliders... Good Grief.. I need to get out wheeling!!
