no doubt
your right, I saw low rider that did the same thing, only the guy could spin the bed and make it bounce which brought me back to the same question WHY! There are so many great mods that are realistic, and then there are some that are just plain dumb, much like the Lexus 4runner that was posted a few months back, WHY WHY WHY!! What a waste of a decent looking SAS truck! Lower it back down a little put normal tires on it, bolt the damn bed onto the frame and give it to me

i think that the bed thing is actually a good idea but not a finshed one.
what im talking about is, i would like to be able to sit in my bed, and raise it that high, for instance, when at my local mx track, if you could get a few people in there and raise it up, so you had better visibility that would be hellsa tight,
would cost a ton to do, and would weight a ton, but it would be cool if you could do that,
but besides my pipe dream that truck is friggin gay.

That is a perfect example of a Southern California Show Truck. That is SO SO SO 1980's. There were tons of those in Phoenix around that time as well.
Now the thing over in SC seems to be the white fenders and the front jacked up on a 2WD.

calling a pre runner a "jacked up 2wd with white fenders" is a pretty big generalization.
There are a lot of cheesy (ricey) trucks cruising around CA but there are also some really, really nice legit pre runners. Many of those guys have put tons of labor and $$$ into their rides to make them work really well in the desert and even on-road.
A real pre runner is no more "jacked up" than your truck but gets twice as much vertical travel and can retain 4wd.
White fenders (gel-coat) make sense since these trucks are getting driven hard and expensive paint jobs are hardly practical.
Check out our Tacoma to see a versatile pre runner...
(with color matched fiberglass and 4wd )

I know it's built for a different type of driving; I am just really not interested at all that. To me, it seems silly. To me that is.
I was quite amused at the huge group of pre-runners at the bottom of blow sand hill in Anza-Borrego as I looked down from the top.
Some day you'll have to leave your little corner of Kalifornia and wheel with the online community.
