Check Engine / Trac Control
Well I meant to post this earlier but here goes. ON day 2 of our wonderful trip to N GA the VSC light was already illuminated because my VSC/ABS mod was engaged. I Love that mod ok ok anyway, we were heading out and stopped at the trail head where I turned the truck off re enabled my VSC/ABS button and started her up again. We drove about 100' and the VSC OFF and TRAC light came on followed by the CHECK ENGINE. Hmm checked what few gauges Toyota provided me with and listened for a second, well she sounds ok and continued on. I later made a joke to my friend that the VSC wasn't a feature I like anyway. I brought it in for service because the t-case is still magically leaking and we just can't figure out where. My mechanic said whil I was gone they had a Lexus in that did the exact same thing. Hmm I thought he then said it was the O2 sensors. The code says it O2 but it trip the Trac system with it somehow. I was in disbelief but with no reason not to trust him I said ok well let me know tomorrow. He called back and said he O2's were pricey like $200ish a piece. A quick check on Napaonline confirmed the price. I looked at toyotpart sales and there prices are much better an OE at that. But just thought I'd point out VSC will trip if O2's are bad.

Same circumstances for me with a catalytic converter failure. Code P0420 and VSC OFF and TRAC light came on with the check engine light. Maybe Toyota's way of "encouraging" you to bring it in for an emmisions problem?

Yep - TRAC-ABS-VSC-CHECKENG all light up when you forget to tighten your gas cap too --- cost me $100 to figure that one out! In Toyota's defense - corporate did refund me my $100 when I complained.

Needless to say I had the light reset and kept on chugging. Now while now environmentally responsible I will replace them in a month or so myself.
