This is a well documented problem and solution. MAF CEL codes happen every 25-35K miles. Clean it with spray carb cleaner. It has now become part of my 6 month maintenance schedule. Cost? 10 minutes and $2.49
where do you get electrical cleaner for $2.49? Radio shack wanted like $12 or something, but I knew I could get it cheaper elsewhere.

My apologies for being unclear when I wrote: "Clean it with spray carb cleaner."
Berrymans B12 Chemtool works well and it's just a few bucks. Take the opportunity to clean out your throttle body while you're at it.

Isn't your MAF still under warranty?

Last time I got a check engine light I went to AutoZone and they pulled the code for FREE and it was the MAF. I celaned it with electrical safe cleaner and it fixed it. I do have a K&N filter too. But, I would try to clean it myself before I let the dealer charge that kind of money. Never trust a dealer!!!!!

It is a 5 year 60K powertrain. So I doubt they will cover the MAFS. But give it a shot.

Only vehicles 1996 of later will have a MAF, your 1995 has an AFM (air flow meter) which works quite differently.
Junkyard or ebay would be the best places for a good price on one.

I know you mentioned that you have no real garage space. I think a screwdriver and the electrical contact cleaner was all i needed. If you have to replace it, its a scredriver and a new MAF. It could be a 10mm wrench, but at any rate it's a very simple operation.

If there are other codes along with the P0171 - it could be an O2 sensor ($90 at URD for non-CA emissions) and about 15 minutes to slide under the Truck and change it. Plenty of write-ups here on changing the O2 sensor too. I would take it someplace like AutoZone or similar and ask them to read the codes for you and see for yourself what codes come up and verify first.

I wouldn't worry about your technical skill level for either one of those projects. Both of them are bone simple. Plus, I am certain there are plenty of wrenchers here on YT that would be willing offer up technical support for you.

Save yourself the money and take the significant other out someplace nice. Probably the best thing about YT for me is the willingness of others to want to help you.

It is a 1995, so it is a 3.0L not a 3.4L and there is no MAF on it.

It looks like this:

You might also try adjusting it too:
