Is there a method to find out which error code is being used when the Check Engine light is on?

I know on RX-7's we could hook up either test lamps (see how many times it blinks and which lamps blink) or set the car into a test mode and watch the check engine light blink pattern to determine the root cause of the check engine light.


Or do I have to go to the dealer and pay for them to find out the root cause?

Since your rig is so new, you need to have a scanner pull the code. Auto Zone was doing readings for free, but I think some people have said they quit doing that. I would run by a small garage or something before trying the dealer for something that simple.

 

Auto Zone was able to do it for me this past week took 2 minutes.
