Check engine light code help!!!!

Ok my brother-in-law just stoppoed by tonight so i could look at his '90 Runner. He said for the last 2 days it cranks over longer than normal before it fires. Before it started right up. He has had nothing done to it lately so i thought i would see if it was throwing a code even though the check engine light wasnt on. I pulled a code #24

24:Open or short circuit in intake air temp sensor signal(THA)

I checked the airflow meter according to Haynes manual. You take a resistance reading on the terminals of the airflow meter connector. None of my readings matched the book......and it says the airflow meter should be replaced......my question is would this cause the hard starts???? Anyone else had this problem? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

If the AFM is mis-reporting the amount of air entering the engine, and the ECU depends on this information to provide the correct amount of fuel, then yes, it could be the cause of the hard starts. If none of the readings are within spec, and you're positive you checked it correctly, then by all means replace it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Dr.........I'm pretty sure i checked them correctly....i will do them again just to be sure. When i check between the specified terminals according to Haynes Im getting no reading just a zero on all terminals. Haynes says i should be getting.....depending on which terminal bewteen 2- 400 ohms. But my main question i guess was if that code was related to the hard starts. And it sounds like it may be if its not getting the right info to the computer. Thanks for your reply!!
