The other day, the check engine light came on and stayed on all day (about two hours of driving). But then the next morning, it shut off and has been off since.

SHould I be worried?

Local auto parts place or the dealer can pull the code(s) for you.

 

Will the codes still show up if the light is no longer on?

 

I'm still fairly new to Toyota, but what from I know.. if the light came on, until you disconnect your battery the codes should still be stored. So yes, there should still be codes and you can get them checked at a local auto parts store, or if you know how, they can give you the code reader with a valid ID or something like that.
