Check Engine Light

My Check Engine Light came on last week with an error indicating that there is a problem with the oxygen sensor, I cleared the error with my scangauge, will the error come back since I havent replaced the sensor?

I was thinking that after 500 miles or so the check engine light would have come back on, does any one here know how this works?

TIA

So if the check engine light does not come back on the original error was a false error?

not necessarily. could also be an intermittent problem until the part fails completely.

Yeah, I've seen CELs come on and go away on their own but they always come back eventually. You can just ignore it for now though - unless you're worried about it spoiling wabbit season for ya.

I'd be careful about answering this guy's questions Wab....

Thanks for the replies, I cleared it while camping a couple of weeks ago and it never came back on, so i was just wondering how that worked.
