check engine light

P0420 code, cat efficiency below threshold bank 1 toyota said the cat need replacement 950$ what do you guys think and if so no a cheeper place for one 994runner limited 3.4

$950 is a reasonable price for a factory cat. There is no cheaper place for a good quality, factory cat. You *can* get cheaper, but the quality is not there and your engine will suffer as a result. Nickle and Iron simply do not keep the engine running as clean and as proper as factory cats (with Platinum and Rhodium)

sounds like you should replace the o2 sensor first. if it has over 100,000 miles on
the sensor the likely problem is the sensor not the cat. 120 bucks for a dealer o2 sensor plus 2 stainless nuts and gasket

x2 on this. Changing rear sensor at 110K (front had been done at 90K) cured my P0420 perfectly. I had other codes when I did the front.
