check engine light

check engine light

my check engine light went on the other day and they told me that i had to replace the EGR valve gasket and temperature sensor and tube how much do you guys think it cost to repair because dealer quoted me $667 or can i do it myself.

let me know what you guys think

It doens't sound that hard. The EGR is easily accessable.

Yeah, the EGR is easy. I was told by a mechanic at Toyota that the only time the temp sensor goes out (om a 6cyl) is when it starts leaking. Otherwise it is usually good for quite a while.

It seems odd that they quoted you to replace the EGR gasket and the temp sensor tube. Is this on a 4cyl or 6cyl? I pretty sure that the temp sensor screws into the back of the block on the 6cyl. I looked at having mine replaced because I got a lean code and one of the problems it mentioned was the temp sensor.

You need to find out what the code is. Something doesn't seem quite right.

it is a 3.0 v6 and i will try to find out what the codes were
