Exclamation Check engine Code 52!?!?!?!

Well here goes my first post on this forum, and I feel there are many more to come.

My problem and question deals with the trouble code #52 on a '91 4Runner with the 3.0. Now I just swapped engines a couple weeks ago when the oil pump on the old one took a dump back in '99 (As you can see I got right on that problem:rolleyes: ). Anyway since I got this thing running I've had this trouble code on. I've pulled the EFI fuse to clear it out many times and it still comes back. I've tried unplugging the knock sensor and not surprisingly the light will not go away.

The only thing I know about this code is what I read from my Haines manual, which is garbage anyway. It says something like there is a short or open circuit in the knock sensor circuit.

The last thing I want to do is pull the manifolds off to change this dang sensor. So part of my question is if anyone knows the correct resistance value for a good knock sensor. I was thinking of plugging a resistor in the connector to "fool" the computer into thinking that it's there and everythings "A" o.k.

Or if any of you have had any experience with a problem like this then please reply.

Sorry for the length of this post but this problem has become urgent now that I NEED to get it smogged here in CA. Obviously without a cooperating check engine light I can't.

Thanks in advance,
Ryan Morris

Anyone?

Maybe somebody has either a Mitchell manual or a Chiltons that goes into more detail about the knock sensor and how to test it than my Haynes manual does. If so please help me out here, I'd really appreciate it!

A knock sensor does not have a resistance value. It works by creating a voltage when it is encountering a knock. I don't have a FSM handy to look up how to check it.

hmm... not much help

O.K. then the knock sensor has no resistance but produces a small voltage when knock is present. How can I check it? I know there are 42 people so far who have read this post and not one of you have a Chilton's manual or a Mitchell manual with a little more information about how to check this thing? Or any information on it at all. The Haynes manual is worthless it says nothing. Please, anyone with any knowledge of this at all.

Thank you,
Ryan

checking

I'll take a look at my FSM and let you know.

I already glanced through last night and found nothing.
