cheap shock trick for 2nd gen. 4runners

Just thought id pass this along. I just installed 1.5" coils in the rear of my 93 runner. I wanted to go with rancho shocks so I bought the ones listed for my truck. They say they are good for 1-2" of lift. Well thats a load of crap they turned out to be exactly the same length as the stock ones. So that is the only listing they had for that style shock(stud mount at the top and eye at the bottom) The next size up is 4" longer which would have it almost bottomed out at sitting on level ground, not very good for offroad. The new rancho would only allow for 1" of drop before maxing out. So I pondered what to do and this is what I came up with. I took a piece of 3x3 box tubing, cut it 3" long. Drilled a hole in the top to match the size of the hole in the shock mount, then drilled a hole to match where the shock stud goes through, then bolt it to the mount off the frame Basically i extended the mount down 3". Now I have flexed this setup out and at full flex you can undo the shock pull it off the axle so the shock is at full drop but so is the axle, and when the wheel is stuffed right up into the wheelwell the shock bottoms out right when the rubber bumpstop starts to compress, so it actually works pretty good. This setup will allow for the use of stock shocks if you wish. Or any aftermarket shocks listed for the stock runner .Well thought id pass this cheap trick along and hope it helps anyone save a few bucks.

Cool idea, I'll have to try that. Sounds a lot cheaper than buying new shocks.
