center console cup mod installation problem

Hey guys, I am trying to do the cup holder mod. I got a 99 console, the e-brake handle, the mounting plate for both the e-brake and console. From what I read on yotatech, it should be a direct swap. But for some reason the new e-brake mounting plate would not align to the mounting hole, is like half a cm away. It looks like the square opening for the e-brake mounting plate on my 96 is not as big as the 99 and up model. It is so weird, I wonder if 99 and 00 or 02 has a different mounting plate since I am not sure which model I got. I was all excited to install them just now and I am like now. Please help please help!!! Thanks in advance!!

My best suggestion is to use your 96 ebrake. I used my 97, unbolt, twist, dril and rebolt. It really wasn't that difficult. The only trouble I had was lining up the silver bracket.

Talking Bob's mods

Doesn't our resident YT guru Bob have a write-up on this? All he wants is for you to pull his finger now that he euthanized the squirrel, or fried him up for supper!

I used my 97 bracket, drilled a new hole. Plugged the old hole with another bolt and silicone.

Thanks guys!! I thought it would be a direct bolt on thing since I got everything form the yard. I might just use the original e-brake plate or grind some part of the hole to make the new e-brake mounting plate fit.

Edited, because i'm a moron...

The two mounting brackets should be the same, i put a 99 console in my 96, and WT put an 01 console into his 98 (ithink) Got pics?

Steve

Compare it to your 96 bracket, maybe the yard sent you the wrong bracket.....

I am not talking about the the metal bracket that the rear of the console bolts to. But the e-brake mounting plate. I have both of the 99-00 and 01-02 bracket, I did realize they are different compare to my 96 and they are perfectly fine. Thanks for your info Steve!!!

Hey guys, know what!! I found the solution!!! I just reuse my 96 e-brake mounting plate and the 99 e-brake and it bolt right on. I just need to remove the small metal holder for the e-brake cable and it works flawlessly!!! So actually we can reuse the old e-brake mounting plate, a 99 console and its mounting bracket, and a 99 e-brake handle and we are set!!!! I am happy now!!
