CBI tire carrier has arrived
#22
Don't let anyone lie to you that tire/rack and if you have the hi-lift can get heavy quick. it is a conveinence though.once you drop the tire down it makes a nice step into the back. I'm actually selling mine, not for that reason, I just need my hitch back!

its easy to lift down, quite opposite to lift it back up, but its worth it because I needed my rear cargo space, it looks good and I need a spare and hi lift so I dont get stuck somewhere.

got some more pictures up, (daytime of course) I also might have solved some peoples questions about rear window visbility with one pic, it will give you an idea of how much visibility you have

this last image shows you my visibility for the rear window, not much but I can still see some

basically you drill a hole into the hitch, weld a bolt onto the end of the whole and thread a screw into the hole to keep it from moving, or thats what I gathered from Steve. It doesnt move enough to irritate me so ill do that later

ok, so I figured out the whole "my tire carrier wobbles like mad" problem
but, I dont know how hard it would be for everyone else to modify to make the same as mine... I took the idea from the Yakima Bike carriers, they've done all the testing so its all good from here on out.
thumbnails below, just made the carrier today so I havent painted or made license plate mount yet... but basically, for the receiver part, I pressed a 1.5x1.5x.25 wall square tube inside of a 2x2x.25 tube, so now its uber thick walled. Heres the key, for the hitch-pin/etc part, instead of drilling a big hole all the way through for the 5/8" dia pin, I drilled an 11/16" hole through one side, and drilled (with a 17/32) and tapped a 5/8-11 hole on other side, now when I slide it in the receiver, I can use a 5/8-11 bolt, which tightens up a lot and eliminates ALL wobble. even at the pivot, I have nearly 0 wobble

for you who bought one allready, you can simply take a chunk of metal to slide into the 2x2 that you have, weld it in, and drill and tap the hole, so you can use a bolt also... or you can weld a nut inside it, or you can weld a nut to a piece of metal to fit inside
also, with this set-up, I believe you can use Yakima's hitch lock to secure it
I'll get pics of the details of the carrier up at my original thread https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f88/boring-weekend-so-i-made-rear-spare-carrier-109884/ tomorrow maybe, and when I get a real tire on it
