CB and scanners

Can they use the same antenna?

Since I already have a CB, I was wondering if I can use the same antenna to hook up a scanner?

The scanner has a different connector (BNC) If you can figure out a way to hook it up I dont see why not.

The radios will interfere with each other and if you try to key the CB, it will smoke the scanner.

When you hook both radios up, they effectively become part of the antenna system of the other. The CB will have a lousy match, so it won't be safe to use it and the scanner will have such lousy reception that it won't be worth it.

I have a "Cellular look" glass mount antenna for my scanner. It is out of the way, and it works great. I have had it since I got my scanner a few years back. I got it at radio shack.

The "cellular" type antenna uses induction (magnetic I think) to send the signal through the glass. The outer part simply sticks on the outside and the inner part sicks to the inside of the glass behind the outer part. These work very well for the scanner since it is receive only.

Yes they can use the same antenna.

You will need to get one specifically for that purpose and it will have a combiner box with it. These are special purpose antennas and are very expensive.

Back in the day when I worked for the local Sheriff's Office I ran the entire telecommunications section. I set up the undercover cars with a special antenna that allowed the sheriff radio and cellular phone to use the same antenna. Not cheap. I might even still have a few of those laying around. Unfortuately they are the wrong bands for what you want otherwise I could hook you up with one.

You would be better off just getting two antennas. I would be so much cheaper and the performance would be better also.
