Don't know. My toyota has 102,000 miles on it. I have done the major service 4 times, but never a full transmission flush. I have never had any problems with this truck. I was driving down the highway @ 70 mph when its started slipping, I just let it coast over to the side of the highway and before I came to a complete stop it sounded like it was full of marbles. Fluid looks brand new, I have never hit the case off road, but the tranny pan is full of metal.

Call Marlin at www.marlincrawler.com he rebuilds trannys.
They don't do autos.

I wonder if it would cost less to convert to a 5 speed?

they didn't have a 5-speed in 2001, and therefore your ECU wouldn't be compatable since it has all the traction control bells and whistles...

Didn't get ahold of Boost Logic or STC, but Sound Performance said no.

You think a 2001 3.4v6 4x4 5speed Taco ECU may work?

They should be more around $400-700 depending on mileage. There are a grip of places in or around Orange County that should have one. Call Ferman's Mini Truck in Santa Ana they should have one or they can locate on e for you. There is also Califrnia Mini Truck in Montclair. I have bought plenty of stuff from both places with no problems. Good luck.

I found some available but nothing that I wanted to go with. The tranny is at IPT being rebuilt as I type this.

I removed the tranny myself following the FSM. I don't know a final cost yet on the tranny but I will in a day or so.

If you are going to have it rebuilt, that is the best shop to be doing it.
Let us know how it works out once you get it all back together.

Worked great for about 65,000 miles, then the planetary gear "went" again. I posted it up on UY. I think heat may have killed it this time.

It was the full rebuild, so I think around $2700-$2800.

Wow, again! I'm shocked you've have it happen to you twice now. Are you towing a lot in OD or something? Where did the extra heat come from?

I am guessing heat. I only ran Amsoil sythetic. I remember the last time I drained the fluid it was red and still clean. After the transmission problems the fluid color was a very dark metallic purple.

Instead of getting this one rebuilt, I got a reman one from an 04 core. These ones according to my tranny guy should have the "fix." So hopefully no more planetary gear problems.

I have a 3year/100,000 mile warranty on this one and I hope I don't have to use it.

I think I cooked it while offroading at Big Bear. I did Gold Mtn + John Bull back to back with 5 people in the car. I remember smelling burnt fluid on John Bull.

i am assuming its a auto? well that sucks dude, autos are WAY more expensive to replace id go to a wrecking yard pull a used one with low miles if you cant afford to have it rebuilt.

Was it five 300lb guys lol? I have noticed my hottest ATF temps to date were racing up a mountain trail.
