CAT Missing

I think I accurately described it in my original statement above. Don't feel bad for him. He is a really happy cat. My girlfriend rehabilitated him from a kitten that barely had his eyes open. He is very social, plays with toys, and loves crunchies. And to think you were originally talking about eating him.

. That's cool your gf did that though. And yeah, I do have a problem with looking at cats as food...

people keep saying that they are going to put a cheap one on. I doubt the theives are going to sit there at night inspecting the converter, You will still have to deal with the issue of having your "cheap" converter stolen and having your exhaust hack sawed.

Yeah, but at least all their work goes for next to nothing as opposed to a big reward. Something else needs to be done obviously, but it is fairly proactive if I do say so myself. My question is if the new cheaper cat will smog for crap.

just run a hidden wire from the house to the exhaust system, that if its touched before you turn off the current, the tweaker gets zapped? a buddy of mine did that to his F150. mind you, it was on his property. it was strong enough to hurt the thieves, but not strong enough to kill them. they all walked away. (after being zapped, then wen they regain consciousness, beaten senselessly by my buddy)

California sucks. My cat was stolen yesterday. What I found out is that in CA the 3.4s on a 96 & 97 are not allowed to have an aftermarket cat. We are required to have a factory cat, and I verified this with CARB (California Air Resource Board). Damn law makers. Here's where I get lost, the 3.4s on the Tacos and T100 can have an aftermarket cat on the same years but no 4runner unles it's a 2.7. Go figure. Now there are recertified cats, but starting July 1, 2008 those are going to be stopped and it will be a dealer part only. I'm looking a $750 installed for a recertifed cat and I paid $155 after tax for the rear O2 sensor.

I think this is one of those "unenforceable" laws. But I would still like to know their reasoning.

As it was explained to me by CARB and Miller Catalyst (aftermarket manufacturer) nobody has paid for the testing to get a CA approval for an aftermarket cat. I know what you are saying about having anyone actual check for it, but it would be my luck that someone would actually check mine. Miller stated to me that they just never had their cat tested for approval on the 3.4 4runner. It makes absolutely no sense at all seeing how the Tacos and T100 are the exact same set-up. As one very reputable muffler shop explained to me, if they are caught installing an aftermarket cat they would be fined $15,000 and a 30 day shut down. They are willing to put an aftermarket on but I would have to tow it out. I'm just not sure I want to take the chance, even though I am not due for smog until April 2009.
