Cant figure out this noise!

Hey crew,

This is my first post, but not my last. I’m hoping you guys can help me out. I’ve searched intensively but come up short.

My truck started randomly making this weird noise last week when giving it gas. Never when revving neutral or park. Like i mentioned, it randomly does it. Last time was Saturday, but hasn’t returned since.

I’ve threw it on a lift on Monday but neither my buddy or I could recreate the noise or determine where it may be coming from. Driveshaft/ U joints seemed ok. New diff from toyota was put in last year.

Sonoran Steel 1.2 installed couple weeks ago.

Thank you!!

Pretty hard to tell by that video, is it the rumble you are referring to?, do you have a aftermarket cat, I had the internal baffles fall apart on a cat that made a intermittent rumble around 2000rpms when under load, sometimes the baffle would jam up and would be fine. Just a guess.

I thought it was the front, but when i had a passenger in the backseat, they said it sounded like it was coming from the rear, so i honestly dont know. The sound stays the same as i increase speed, but goes away when i take my foot off the gas. Same sound in all functions2wd, 4wd, with and without locker.

Low diff fluid level or bad rear wheel bearings? Check wheel bearings by placing back on lift and shaking tires.....unusual slop or vertical movement?

The noise has become an on going issue here to stay. Threw the rear up with a floor jack and recorded this. Buddy of mine thinks its the front U joint in the rear shaft.

Didn't notice any industrial zip ties attached to your drive shaft, did you? It's a dick move, but it's hilarious.

I remember a case where the drive-shaft came into contact with the gas tank skid. A long-shot, but check for it

Ive checked that as well. Took the driveshaft off and tested it. No noise. Ive also shown this video to a driveshaft specialist as well. We both come to the conclusion that its the double cardan joint that is causing the noise. I ordered a new driveshaft through toyota yesterday. Hopefully that solves the problem.

Did the drive shaft guy offer to rebuild it, not easy but doable, it is very common for people to over look greasing the double Cardan joint in the middle and just lube the 2 ujoints, good catch.

Talk to a couple of people about rebuilding. Some said hell no lol others charge as much as a new shaft. Ended up ordering a custom shaft from tom woods
