Bumper mount differences btwn 99+ & 96-98

I've done searches on this, but haven't come up with a definitive answer.
(I know the bumpers themselves are different, but I'm more concerned about the mounting points/hardware between the two)

I like the style and price of the bumpers at www.bentup.com, and he's already made one for a 96-98 4runner. If he makes a replica of that, will it fit my '99?

I seem to remember some sort of mounting plate being different, but I'm not sure. Has someone done a conversion, or fitted a tjm, etc. to a '99?
The guy @ bentup asked me if the bumpers are any different, what should I tell him? If he makes one based on the '98 design, will it fit with minimal changes?

thanks all

I know, I just don't really want to drive 500 miles, and stick around long enough to have them design and fabricate it. If they could build one from an existing design, and send it my way, that'd be perfect...

I'm pretty sure the 99+ rigs have square/rectangular end plates on the end of the frame that serve as mounting points for the bumpers.

This is true. In order to use an earlier model bumper these plates would need to be cut off and the frame rails cut back to the pre 99+ dimension...

Zubaltec, has a 99-00 4Runner he switched the bumper for the 96-98 style. He said that its a direct bolt on, as long as you have all the parts thats necessary for the bumper.

Well when I took off the bumper during my body lift it was held on by a plate on the front of each frame rail that was bolted to a a part that look like a cross member that is bolted to the bumper shell. It also has a bolt on each end.

When I took my brush guard from my 99 and tryed to put it on my mom's 97 hers but it didnt have the plate on the front of the frame rail to bolt it to.

hope this helps

I would also be interested in one of those bumpers.
