Question broken front shock mount

Hey all, i'm new to this forum, but have used 4x4wire for a while. I just wanted to see if anyone else has had my problem...

I have a 91 4runner SR5 V6 4WD, and one of the mounting "plates" that the shock bolts to has broken off of the frame. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this happening before. If you look at where the shocks are mounted to the frame on the 2nd gens, the metal is very thin, looks to me like an error in design. My truck has not been used for any "heavy" off-road driving within the past 2 1/2 years i've had it, but it seems odd that an important component such as this would be able to break. Of course i've repaired it by welding the piece back on(definitely not a permanent fix), but I wonder if anyone else has had this problem and developed a way to reinforce it.

Just thought i'd run this by you guys thanks ahead for any replies...

No problems here. Is this your front or rear shock?

no problems here...but i do understand what youre saying...i was a little surprised by how flimsy "looking" the mounts for the front shocks are on 2nd gens...when i replaced my fronts a while back though i just wailed on the old shock and snapped it cuz the lock nut was stripped out by whoever tightened it down and i couldnt get it off...and the shock snapped before the plate its mounted to did...so i didnt worry too much about it...good luck with a "permenant solution"...its a bracket actually that is welded onto the frame...maybe you could get something made up and welded in there
