Broke an axle yesterday..

The driver side rear axle snapped yesterday, while driving in a suburb towing another truck.. The wheel didn't fall off.
I just placed the truck outside the road, and went back to work. It was a blizzard outside yesterday, so I wanted to try to move it to a garage, but all the tow trucks were busy.. I wasn't going to let it sit there over the weekend, so I bought a used axle with everything attached, went over there and replaced it in the weather.

When I talked to more experienced guys, they thought it was the bearing, basicly didn't think it could happen like that.

One said on a local forum, that this could happen if the bearing would over heat, but I know that wasn't the case yesterday.

You guys in Iceland run those really big tires so that puts one heck of a load on those axles especially when you are driving on pavement. At least the axles are simple to pull out. Your best bet is getting a used one from someone you know and bolt in.
