Brakes on 3rd gen
#21
Ok, well i got most of it out with the hose, and constantly spinning the wheel. Looks like I will need new pads, rotors, but I knew I needed to replace them soon anyways when I bought the truck. So its no big deal, ill just go out and buy the autozone ones, and have a mechanic put them on. I think im gonna try to take an auto shop class at the community college this summer so I feel comfortable working on my car, and so I actually know something, lol. Thanks guys for your help.

My dad, and our neighboor (who has a 4runner too) and another friend said its probably the brake pads, now it makes sense when I see the grooves in the rotor. Well im gonna take it in tomorrow afternoon and get the fluids/oil changed at the same time.

It is REALLY simple if you have a ratchet and a 14mm socket. But if you don't feel comfortable, then don't do it.
If the rotor is scored, you are most likely going to need a new one anyway (depending on the thickness spec).

Are the rotors you bought part number 31204?

The rub with the latter is that the pads are so abrasive they wear through your rotors (instead of the pads wearing). The rotors cost more than pads and no one sells a "lifetime" rotor.
Hopefully you got a brakepad with the brand name "lifetime".
EDIT - even if you didn't, its not the end of the world. Half the 3rd gen owners on here replace rotors every year w/o the superabrasive pads (blamed on "warping")

I believe it was a brand name, she explained to me why they were better than what other shops usually put on, it seemed like she was talking about a brand. i just got a call from them, and they said that both front pads and rotors had to be replaced, and that I had been driving way too long on them. The brake dust is the first warning sign, and then the squealing two days ago was baaddd. Great thing is Ill have the truck back this afternoon, I cant wait to feel the difference.
