brake pedal travel

I have about an inch before the brakes start to apply. Once they start to apply the pedal doesn't have very much travel after that before they are fully applied.
If you have excessive pedal travel here are two things to check on.
First if your parking brake lever takes more than 3 clicks to apply you need to adjust your back brakes. The rear brake self adjusters on the 4runners and taco drums are notorious for not working.
Also look at the brake fluid in the reservoir. If its not a light amber color it needs to be flushed and bleed.
Brake fluid is hygroscopic (absorbs water BIGTIME) and when you get enough water in the brake fluid it can easily get hot enough to boil.
Of all the fluids that should be flushed routinely brake fluid seems to be the most overlooked.

The Wagner ceramic pads are the best bar none. They don't suffer from heat fade and have almost no brake dust.
As far as anything brake related go with Wagner. When I went to do the tundra brake swap I used their rebuilt calipers, rotors and pads. The quality of their rebuilt calipers far exceeds most of the other brands out there.
