brake pedal clunk

My 2002, taco,4x4,double cab brake pedal chunks when I bear down on it right before it stops ? It's not the driveshaft, It's lube and I feel the clunk on the brake pedal. It feels like the tires are pushing back into the wheel wells. Is this possible? I run 265x75s. It's probably the rotors, but it feels different? Thanks.

Bill

If the sound seems to be coming from the rear, you may have a leaking axle inner seal. If the seal leaks gear oil into the drum, it soaks into the pads and causes them to "stick" to the drum when you apply the brakes. Just before you stop, it will make a "clunk" noise. I had this happen when my rear inner seal went. You will need to check your rear brake shoes, just jack the truck up, pull the wheel and drum and see if you have black looking "grease" inside the drum. Good luck

Thanks, no there is no sound, I feel it on the brake pedal. I feel it when I brake hard and when the brake pedal is almost fully depressed. It feels like something is binding, or there is a rock under the pedal. And I feel it in the front of the truck.

I know what warped rotors feel like and this is not the same thing, unless they are are really, really warped bad? Or it's the calipers?

Thanks
Bill

My 97 made a similar noise when I was pulling a small 4x6 trailer. When I applied the brakes, I would get a very brief rubbing/vibrating noise that vibrated the pedal and the floor. After I dropped off the trailer, the noise went away...
