Brake help needed

Hi all, am new to this forum.

Recently I acquired a 2000 4RUNNER, V6 4WD model. I need to replace the rotors (they're warped) and pads so looking at the wheels, which are 16" factory, I ordered 16" rotors. However, glancing at the door jam I see that the vehicle came standard with 15" wheels and learned the switch was done at the dealership. With this, the 16" rotors will not work without replacing my calipers as well.

So, my questions are: 1. is there any benefit to having 16" vs. 15" rotors? 2. Other than the calipers, do any other parts need to be replaced to accomodate the larger rotor (e.g., different brake pads, dust shields in back, etc.)?

Thanks for your help,

John

You ordered 16" rotors???

Save yourself a lot of time and do a search on Tundra Brake Upgrade on this forum. There are several HUGE threads with tons of info. More info then you ever will need. Part numbers and everything. I just did my upgrade several weeks ago and I was finished in just over an hour and a half (and that was also changing from winter tires to summer tires).

Sorry, rotors were for 16" standard wheels ...

He's not commenting on that, he's saying if you're going to replace the calipers as well then do some heavy research on the Tundra brake upgrade. It seems it'd be worth your while to at least consider it, though you'd need to get different rotors (also 16", but thicker).

Does anybody know if he'd need to buy the bit of brake line that comes from the caliper and goes to the brake hose? Other than that it's just rotors, calipers, pads and......
clearing the bigger calipers with your wheels could mean using a spacer. 1/4" on my tri-spokes is required. Others do not need anything or can do a little grinding to make it fit.

No go. Research. Or just get what you're getting. Prolly similar cost-wise?
Don't forget pads and possibly the bit of brake line that comes from the caliper and goes to the brake hose, if they aren't the same as the 15" (sorry, I'm unfamiliar).
