I have recently replaced the front brakes on my 04 Runner, and of course the caliper cylinder on the inside bottom right was froze. Today I replaced the caliper with a rebuild from Cardone, I bled the line. Then on the test drive the caliper on the right side felt soft, when the brakes are applied the runner at first goes to the left, then after the second pump of the pedal the right side grabs fine. I have tried to bleed again, as it felt like there might still be air in the line, but it showed no improvement.

Is there something I am overlooking.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Did you bleed every bleeder in the correct order?

 

Are you sure your brake line is not twisted?...If not..I would atlease gravity blead out half a bottle of fluid,before bleading.....

 

Yes, I'm sure the line is not twisted. I did not gravity bleed.

 

Keep bleeding! Start from the rear most tire, and just do it a million times, hoping something comes out. Then move around.

I left my truck sitting a week after a brake line broke, and of course it took me about an hour or two of bleeding before my brakes came back to normal. There was air stuck way up in the lines.

 

Gravity bleed all four wheel at the same time-- 45 minutes tops.

Get four bottles--vac line--Brake Fluid--pour some in bottles, cut hose long enough to be in the fluid--put vac line on bleeder nipples --open bleeders (All four)--have beer and continue to top off fluid as it bleeds......

when you have have all four bleed--close off the bleeders furthest away from the master cyl......

This works great every time and if it doesnt--you have other issues

Where to start, First of all, I have to fest up and say that the replacement was the wrong caliper casting. The original was 13WG, while the caliper I got from Advanced was a 13WL. The only difference is the angle of the brake line inlet is at a slightly different. So, I went to the local stealer and he had the right caliper, at 2.5 times the cost of course, but the right part.

Threw is on did the gravity bleed for about 2 hours. One thing I should mention is I live in northen Wisconsin, so liquids flow a little slower when it's 25 degrees outside. But anyway after 1.5 hours the brake fluid was flowing clear. Tightened her up and everything works fine.

Took it out for a test ride, we had a snow storm last night so the roads are very icey. Stopped fine abs kicked in, and I stopped staight.

Thanks to all, the info I received was a great help, no matter how I try to mess things up it's nice to know there are folks willing to help.

Don't go too far as next weekend I will tackle the rear brakes.
