Borla Exhaust Install Questions

I ordered the Borla exhaust from PerformanceCenter. I installed a TRD exhaust on Tacoma a few years ago. Is the Borla on the 4runner as straight forward? Any tips before it arrives and I get started? Do I really need to get a gasket beforehand for the end of the cat?

Thanks everyone.

I will answer my own question. No I did not need a new gasket for the flange at the back of the cat where the Borla starts. The bolts at this location were difficult to get loose. Had to use a small cheater on the 3/8" ratchet.

I did finish the install. I did have to cut the nuts off the joint in front of the tail pipe. On tight and could not get enough leverage to brake loose.

I think it sounds good. I can tell it is there but not real intrusive.

There is enough room for the 270/65-17 spare tire as there is about an inch at the closest place. I really don't think there is a concern with the tire getting too hot, but I will check.

All in all I am quite pleased with the install, no running to get any additional parts. And I like the sound.

Excellent! Welcome to the club. You have the dual or single Borla? I noticed the engine adjusted itself after about 500 miles, it develops a nice low rumble and the engine idles smoother after that time. Drop in a K&N filter and your set. pics?

Glad the read about the clearance on the spare. I was concerned about the heat from the pipe.

Hey Sac State,

Soryy, no digital camera=no pictures.

It is the dual exhaust setup.

Regarding heat on the spare. The pipe does get quite hot. I am waiting for a reply from a couple of companies for a heat shield just to be safe.

Upon further review I am not sure if I bought the correct type of heat shield. I am waiting to hear back from the company and will post their answer.

Answer just in. Yes, it is the correct part to use. And a reflective material on the tire could be used in addition to the clamp on heat shield. I like a company, Heat Shield Products, that will respond to questions about their products.
