Body Lift Question

I have a bone stock 1993 Toyota 4Runner. It is 4wheel drive and it's a 5 speed. I just purchased a 4 inch Pro Comp suspension lift. I would like to add a body lift as well. I will have 33x12.50/15's on a 10 inch rim. I would like to go at least 2 inches on the body lift. I did see a nice 4runner with a 3 inch lift. Any opinions on a 2inch vs a 3inch body lift? Either way, I would be having someone else do the install.

Why do you want a suspension lift and a body lift? You only need that much lift if you are going to try to fit 35" tires or just want the truck really high in the air. The suspension lift will let you fit 33" tires no problem, or you could even fit the 33's with a 2" body lift and a little trimming of the pinch seam.
If you do decide to get a body lift check this guy out
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/ProductLine.shtml
He's on the board as 4crawler, many people have used his products and I haven't heard of one complaint.
The suspension lift is something you should let someone else handle if you aren't comfortable with it but the body lift is something you could do your self in a couple of hours in you back yard.

I have a 4inch lift and 33x12.50s on a 15x10 inch rim and it wasn't untill I added a 1 inch BL and ball joint spacers that I finally quit rubbing my front fender well. The 4 inch suspension lift alone wasn't enough for me.

This is the type of turn that used to just about rip my fender flares off, but now it is close but no rubbing at all. http://community.webshots.com/photo/...82564705rEOQhF

4crawler's body lifts are top quality and I'm very happy with mine.

8 inch rims will fit better, and eliminate the need for the BL. You can always add some BL later should you decide you want to. I have 4"/3" and can fit 37s.

Really? people were telling me to go 8 inch but I swear i couldn't get it into my head. My old rig was an 85 xtra cab and i had 12's on that. 8's just look so tiny. I'll probably regret it, huh? Although I wish I had your gears! 5;29's are hot. I use to run them on my 85.

12's? Wow, how wide were the tires?

35x15.50's. They were huge! But a little much. Much happier with 33's

i got 33x12.5 on an 8 inch with the superlift and i still need a body lift b/c of rubbing in the rear when i flex. chunks were sliced out of my tires b/c i needed more clearence.
i'll be getting a 2 inch soon. never had any problems with the front rubbing though.

I rub a little in the rear too when I am all flexed up. The back spacing also makes a difference on rubbing.

if u do a 2" i dont think u have to weld extensions in to the shifter, or move the radiator. i think 2" would be less work then a 3"

I got a $600.00 quote from a local shop for parts and labor for either the 2 or 3. I will have to question them hard on radiator and shifter modifications. I have heard that from others.

If you do go with a body lift, I'd reccomend Marlin Crawler's short throw shifters on the 5 speed and transfer case. Even with the shifter extenders my shifters didn't fit throught the boots properly. The short throw kits made a huge difference - especially on the transfer case.

Holy crap I could think of alot better things to spend my money on. On a serious note though a body-lift is really not that hard to do with minimal tools and a jack you can do it in a day. The last body lift I did only took me about 4 hrs or so.

You know how to solve that issue cheap is to move the trans/shifter boot back 1/2 drill new holes for the screws and cut the center peice out of the shifter separator plate. Worked for me.

cut the shifter above the boot and under the leather shield, then weld then weld the new piece in there and u wont have probs. doing the body lift for the first time if only a 2inch shouldnt take more then 4 or 5 hours. they are as easy as loosing and tightening 8 bolts. good luck bud

What parts are they using? See if they will install 4crawler's kit for you or just read his instuctions; http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/ProductLine.shtml and see if it's something you may could do yourself. I don't think you can get a better kit than his.
