Blues getting in gear finally
Well this is scary enough for me being it is a BIG change. But its for the best right. I am dropping Blue off @ a buddies house tonight after work. He is going to install my 5.29 gears & rear Detroit auto-locker. The last time I was without Blue was when I had to leave it at a shop to have the timing belt & parts replaced. Well my buddy told me that I should get a less expensive brand of 75/90 gear oil being there is a 500 mile break in period for the gears. I went down to the parts store and they only had 80/90. I asked the counter CHILD and he told me to go to a lube shop to get synthetic oil. I know that synthetic is the best BUT the oil is for the break in period and will just be dropped in a couple weeks. So I ignored his wierd advise and just got 80/90. Should this be ok for the new gears during the 500 mile break in period? After we drop the break in oil I will put something else in but I want a few suggestions. What brand is best and should I then go with the 75/90? Thanks

I did have it blue but to dark of blue. so then i went to sky blue but it was still on dark blue being i didnt delete the font color settings. but i didnt figure that out til i made it red and then i was tired of editing over and over. So just for you I will make it sky blue and I to will be happy. lol

The 80W90 will be just fine. IIRC, that's what the Toyota factory manual says to use and that's what I used to break my gears in. After the break in I filled my diffs w/ Mobil-1 synthetic 75W90.

Break in should be done with the more frictive regular gear lube because it will allow enough heat and similar for the breaking in.
Switch to synthetic when you get them broken in at 500.
Gears and lockers may actually make it more than just big.

Gear & locker install complete.
Well I picked up my runner tonight. Its not as peppy as I assumed it would be. I mean it does take off easier but I figured it would be higher rpm's off the line. I guess I should give it a day or so before really judging the results. I will get back to you guys soon. Blue
