Blue Interior Bulbs

Just wondering has anyone actually tried the bulbs from this website to replace the interior bulbs behind the instrument panel and the AC/HEATER panel?

http://www.lightlens.com/coloredbulbs.htm <-- go to the bottom

MODEL #LB74B

I'm thinking about getting them, but I wanna know how much of a difference they will make. Please let me know.

Sorry I forgot to clarify. I have a 98 4Runner, so the bulbs behind the panel will the smaller ones.

I'm sure the 194 light up well since they are larger than the ones I have.

are those bulbs for behind the gauges? or for the AC instrument panel? or for both? regardless, i think blue is a much better color than green. anyways... it's only 10 bucks... i figure it's worth a shot.

let us all know how it looks if you decide to buy.

The blue bulbs at lightlens (interior lights, the ones at the very bottom of the page of colored bulbs) are size 74. I put them in my heater controls, glove box, ashtray, gear shifter cover, instrument panel, etc.

I know I am a little slow... I promised to have pics of the mod, but haven't gotten around to it. I will try to remember to take pics tomorrow night.

they light up about the same as the original bulbs. The only problem I see is that the color is a little whiter in the middle where the light is. I guess the top of the bulb is not coated with as much color.

Lightbulb

I too would like to make my inst. consoles blue, are there any bulbs that you can use to make the dash appear brighter? What about HID blue bulbs, will they work? I find the green hard to see at night with the black inst. cluster.

You could create your own LED's. That would make it brighter. You can buy LED's at Radio Shack for about 2 bucks each in red, yellow, blue, green and white. LED's use less power and last longer than standard bulbs, as well as being brighter. I found a writeup for doing it on a ford, but the concept is the same. The writup I found was here .

I am going to try this sometime next week when I have a day off. I will try to do a writeup to perfectly fit our 4runners

take the bulb out, go to any auto store, and they can look it up.

Actually, you could call them if you wanted since they look up the part numbers/sizes, etc by year, make, and model. A Toyota Dealership might do it as well.. I know that Advanced Auto Parts does this.

I believe that the instrument panel uses 168's on 3rd gen's, but I am not positive. My father has a 3rd gen, but I doubt he wants me taking his dash apart to find out for you

If you have taken your dash apart, look at the bulb itself. Sometimes they still have the size of the bulb written on them. With mine, the writing had worn away, so I just brought the bulb to an auto store, compared sizes, then ordered online since I now knew the size. I would not reccomend using the blue bulbs from an auto store. I tried that and they were very dull and cast a greenish glow instead of blue.
