Blown strut replacement, do both sides?

Hi
My three year old RF Trekmaster strut started acting weird. I replaced the damaged strut this past weekend to get a better ride. I got a couple of questions though

Do I need to replace the other front strut too? If so I want to do that before I get an alignment

Did Tokico change the valving on the Trekmaster? This new one feels a lot softer than the old one I removed (which stayed compressed if pushed in)

Thanks

shocks like tires and brakes, need to be replaced in pairs. Other wise you get balance issues. Especially if its 3 years old

What is a good time frame to replace shocks? (as a kinda rule of thumb) Mine look like oe, and my rig is 20 years old.

Ok. Thanks. It rides so much better now that before so I thought it would be fine. Also it is a pain to replace and I had hoped they would have lasted longer.

20 yrs sounds like high time. My original OE lasted 70K before the eye bushing broke. These Trekmasters didn't last long.

Agreed, do them in pairs.

How long struts will last depends on what kind of life they've had, rough roads and lots of miles, or highway use and low miles makes all the difference in the world. Also things like road salt can decrease the lifespan as well.

I'm in the middle of installing a new set of Bilstein HDs, front a rear. This will be my second set. I installed the first set at around 60,000 miles back in '04 (purchased the truck new).

The truck is now at 218,000 miles and just felt a bit tired. Amazingly, all of the old Bilsteins still have pressure (certainly less than when new, but not completely shot either).

I'm also installing a new set of Toyota strut mounts, as the originals are actually shot.

Looking forward to a smooth ride on my way to 300,000 miles...
